Interesting...from food, clothing and now service the CORPORATE world is going to shit... more concerned if you have been vaccinated or if your political views are in line the corporate has brought alot of great, fluid innovation but can it keep up without eating itself from within? only time will tell but get ready for a brave new world... without corporate fascist ideoligy taking front seat to good service, honest intention and fair value...😇

To find a thorough mechanic in a dealership will be like looking for an honest guy in the pulpits of education...bwahahah...non existant rare getting rarer...having said that I hope the rush to get a 996 will not produce the same disaster that took hold of the 928s4 market...these innovations cost money to own and if you are prone to not maintaining a vehicle correctly, leave them alone...please!

Dealership Service Departments especially for high end cars do not like working on old cars. Most of their clients do not drive them so they know they won't make much money on them and it slows down their business for their high end customers on easy brake jobs and "tune ups" Essentially they gave Hoovie a big middle finger to not come back and waste their time in their eyes.

Thanks for the great, educational video. I have noticed the same things with the local Porsche dealer. Those parts are quite often ”rare” and not in the warehouse right now and naturally have to be ordered outboard. Which was expensive. The situation suddenly changed when another company started offering Porsche parts and maintenance.

The automotive industry is a funny business. Nowhere else have I witnessed even the most liberal people turn into a conservative mindset that would make the GOP look like socialists. Someone downstairs wrote that a good mechanic is worth his weight in gold ... which is proven over and over. Some people stick with brands and even specific dealers due to their affiliated auto repair shops and their mechanics. Reputation is paramount in this business ... lose it and you're doomed!

Porsche Zentrum, Germany: A friend's 997 was in for regular inspection to save some kind of a warranty status. 3k bill - once a year. Because he wanted to trade in the car for a newer one he asked for the 50k value they always talked about. Suddenly they claimed faults worth 9k to be repaired before they would consider a trade-in. Until then he was a regular customer.

Audi wanted around £300 each to replace the 2 front xenon lamps. (£150 for 1 bulb + £150 Labour!). Plus vat it came to around £650/£700! I refused and had it done at a local auto store, £70 each bulb plus £10 labour (it takes 5 mins). So £150 total. These dealer prices are a joke!

SUCH BS PORSCHE. THEY ARE JUST TRYING ALWAYS TO STEAL MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS. A WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT ON A DOOR OF A 996 TAKES AT THE MOST 1.5 HOURS AND THAT IS A ROOKIE DOING IT. URO BRAND WINDOW REGULATOR WITH IMPROVED BALL BEARING DESIGN IS $135 PART. EASY SOOOOO EASY TO REPLACE. WAX ON WAX OFF. USE TAPE TO MARK THE LINES WHERE THE GLASS PADS HOLD THE GLASS, SO THAT WHEN YOU REINSTALL THE GLASS JUST LINE UP TO THE TAPE AND TIGHTEN. JUST BEC YOU ARE RICH, DON'T BE STUPID AND PAY A $1000 FOR A REPLACEMENT.

I only came here to comment. This was my first 911. Bought it used from a dealer in Munich. a month after I bought it the engine, entire engine, had to be replaced. They paid for it and it had a known flaw. 3 years later the gear box had to be replaced. Do I abuse my cars, ah no quite the opposite. Sold it and a few years later bought a new 991.2 Turbo. Night and day different. Lesson here - 996 is by far the worst 911 Porsche has ever produced, which is why they are so cheap. If you are looking for a really good 911 look at the 997's and 991's. Good luck!

Could be the dealer figured "$6,000 911? Don't scare the guy off with the full estimate- we'll break it to him slowly as we go..." I avoid my local dealer unless I absolutely have to go, knowing they roll their eyes when I pull in with my 20-year-old Boxster. There isn't another car there within a hundred grand of mine. Would it help if I wore a top hat and a monocle and maybe twirled a cane?

Take your beloved Porsche to a Porsche dealer at your peril. They do sloppy work at $200/hr, don't even check tire pressure. But they give you a capuccino and a shitty car wash. Mine had a squeaky door. They changed the oil and yep, ignored the squeaking door which they must have opened 5 times. While there is no substitute for a 911, there are many for service... They sell tires 50% more expensive than competitors who are already makiing 50%...

He trusts the wizard because they have a relationship of give and take. He has zero relationship with the dealer and has no intent to pay for their time other than a 1 hour fee.

@Michael M yes! Typically dealers offer free or very low cost small inspections spending maybe 15 to 60 minutes. A real pre purchase inspection needs to be at least 2 hours. At 3 or 4 hours the mechanic will have massive data on most all areas.

@Juusto the 996 is worth a lot more than the cost of a new engine. They are going up in value. These channels stating he bought a 996 for $6k USD are very misleading. it could have been a total fluke from a private dealer only auction. Good luck trying to find any 996 in USA for under $15k that isnt just falling apart. I honestly dont think you know much about this car and spent 5 minutes on google.

@M T The IMS bearings are around 800 bucks without labour. I would rather just take the 7% risk and drive with it as is. If they happen to fail, scrap it. There's alot more than just a bearing to go wrong in a car.

    5. M T
      M T
      5 місяців tagasi

@Juusto not sure where you get your numbers. Its every 996. There are over 10% recorded failing. Which is a huge number. considering a new porsche engine will run you $12k-$15k. And for $800 + install you can swap out the bearings and not worry.

I had the same experience with my Jaguar dealership. There are things that only they can do and having dealer only service for the life of a car should make its resale better. But the model for luxury dealerships is exactly that. They don't sell that many cars and their margins aren't high enough, so they make up for it by raping the customers on repairs.

I like the honesty that this car wizard maintains with the customer. The Porsche dealership has very little respect for the customer and even less for the car they’re supposedly all about. Drastic over pricing for simple jobs is nothing shy of theft. The dealership you went to does everything to maintain the idea that dealerships are nothing but crooks. At the car wizard’s shop, there was a list of very important issues found needing serious attention, that the dealership seemed completely oblivious to. And still, the projected bill at the wizard’s shop was about 50% less.. Talk about a true ‘public fail’, for the Porsche dealership. I myself have found a shop that does great work on my older BMW and doesn’t charge the customer as if the whole shop had wild coke and meth habits and other major substance abuse issues.

This was a fascinating and fun video. The dealers use corporately generated price and labor sheets while an independent will tend to charge based on the real time it takes. There is a good argument to be made for buying these cars out of warranty and using an independent “wizard” who can do the work for a reasonable price and you end up with a bargain performance car! The dealers are actually the reason these cars depreciate badly. People know that it can cost a fortune to keep them at spec running well with OEM parts and dealer labor rates...so their prices crater as they are risky.

I don’t think there was a single 911 specific issue found sans the airbag module communication. Any car with 175k sold at auction would need this work and more. A proper 996 evaluation must include compression and leak-down along with IMS condition and internal timing chain component inspection. I recognize this could be a $1,000 bill, but why put all of the other repairs into the 996 when it’s Achilles heel hasn’t been inspected at all?

Exactly. I expected the mechanic to say, “175,000 miles? I will make you a likely list before I even look at it.” There was nothing egregious in the list, mostly normal wear and tear which is a pretty good comment on the car.

Not everyone is prioritizing reliability when shopping for a car. Its a given that one wants a car to be always reliable. But a car guy wants to experience the rush of a performance car, and thats something that even if a car is notoriously known for breakdowns, when the good is going great, its worth the headaches and repairs.

Ahh, you see, that's the problem. A lot of us don't have a Wizard. :/

Years back we bought a 85 Porsche Carrera from a guy in phoenix, being in Pennsylvania i arranged to have a ppi done at Scottsdale's Porsche dealer . in phoenix it is HOT !! the car had the A/C removed years ago which was fine with me! All the A/C parts came along in boxes !! Now this part is conjecture BUT ! I believe that the tech saw no A/C and put the car in gear drove it in and did what they did . and backed it out .SO when we flew down from Pennsylvania and met his brother who was delivering the car to us , we were very excited! !! UNTIL we got to the first stop sign and 1st gear ground like a bastard !!!!! It was then I realized the tech didn't drive the car AT ALL !!!! I drove around the bad box for 7 years, and ironically, sold the car without having to explain the gearbox problem BECAUSE! !! We sold it back to the previous owner !!!! For more than we paid for it !!!😄😄😄😄🇺🇸🇩🇪😎🍺🍺🍺🍺 here is the car if you are interested! !!! eefast.info/for/g2x4ZoxkqZCEjqU/video.html

I guess this dealer was not willing to pay you for positive comments so you decided to trash them? So sad.
