So you don’t know what they would have suggested… when Rich complained about Tesla he actually takes it to Tesla Service first and when they failed he would show how

And when you replace one cell (for $1000) you think the other 6,999 will last forever, right? So, 25 other out of the 7000 fail at different times, you've spent $25,000 with more that can fail. THAT'S why they replace the whole pack.

This was the Ludicrous Mode Model… I’ve always said Electric Cars especially Tesla are Just as Bad as Gas Cars if not Worst… First Off those Batteries are not Environmentally Friendly and How are they disposing of them???? And To get Electricity U have to Mainly Burn Coal and the More Tesla’s on the road means more coal burnt..🤷🏻‍♂️ And Tesla is Like Apple and won’t sell U parts and Your Tesla has to go to a Tesla approved repair center ( which are backlogged ) especially in High Tesla Populted places..And they don’t replace parts U have to buy the whole complete segment i.e. If U need a battery coolant nozzle -$10, U have to buy the whole Battery Pack $17,000…🤦🏻‍♂️😭… And If caught fixing your own Tesla with unapproved Tesla parts It’ll VOID your warranty and they’ll expel U from the Supercharging System… It’s BS!!! And it’ll get Worst when more and more Buy Electric, Some places will let U charge Free now but that’s because they’re trying to get people over to Electric but as soon as everyone or enough are converted those will no longer be free, and imagine a Majority of people needing to charge their Tesla’s during your morning commute… That’d be hell, because unlike Gas it takes at least 20 mins. Each person to get a adequate charge… No thanks I’ll keep my Gas Vehicle and spend 5 mins. Filling up… 😂👍🏻

It's generally cheaper to buy a new electric car than replace their failing batteries, these batteries last 5 to 10 years tops and so they are just scrapped. This is why it's not very environmentally friendly, yet, to get an electric car. Our battery technology isn't advanced enough, environmentally friendly enough (due to the expensive replacement costs) or cheap enough for it to be a viable replacement for fossil fuels.

This is the problem with ev’s and especially Tesla. Batteries and motors are the problem, they like to claim there is only one moving part which causes less wear but then they are bricked by a wire or the fuses from the power cable. Rich rebuilds has basically taught me to steer clear of these and all ev’s. Can’t work on them or they can kill you and if you lose some of the fuses off the main power cable can basically brick the car. If you want to be eco friendly buy a Toyota and drive it 300,000 miles will save the landfill and the pollution from lithium mining.

In many cases, replacing the whole battery for a Prius was better than replacing individual cells. There is a reason why they did that. The difference here being that Toyota made a much more reliable car, and they were much more repairable. If the battery cooling fan died, they wouldn't replace the whole battery along with it, they'd just replace the fan. The Prius is a far more reliable and repairable car than a Tesla. Replacing individual cells was thought to be a lot more dangerous than it is because the new cell will have an imbalance of capacity relative to the other cells. This is important since they are used in series.

However my 20 year old truck gets the same mileage and performance that it did when I bought it brand new! I'm not looking at a $20,000 bill to replace my engine or transmission, at most it would cost half that much if needed to replace both! Surprisingly my blue book value is 3/4 of what I bought it for new! $5,000 lower in price over 20 years! EV's have a long way to go!

@George Spalding And that's fine so long as he doesn't pretend it's not covered under warranty. He likely waited the warranty out. At least that's what it's smelling like. It's also possible that even if the battery is currently out of warranty that he could speak with Tesla to have them research when the error codes first appeared. But he isn't going to do that because as you said.. this is an auto repair channel. I'm just getting a bit tired of people trying to bash Tesla for the batteries or drive train when the things are warrantied for 8 years and unlimited miles to make sure they have access to the most recent revisions BEFORE the warranty runs out.

    2. George Spalding

Hoovie does the research, trust me. He KNEW the car's main battery was out of warranty and there was a chance it would FAIL soon so used that for a negotiating tool. He bought the car knowing the batteries can be rebuilt (As he's done a Prius before). This channel is about FIXING broken cars remember? Now he's got another project car and content for several more videos......Bingo! I guarantee the previous owner knew it was failing but didn't want to go through the hassle of replacing the battery which is a major issue like Hoovie said when you live 3 or 4 hours from the Tesla service center.

Hey did you go to the William Shatner school of acting??? Also not even bothering to check with Tesla about the actual problem and cost and claiming it is $17,000 based on some internet forums you read is just nonsense. How can you comment on the cost and how Tesla makes repairs if you never even talked to Tesla? Having said that Rich's guys will definitely be able to fix the car, but you never even gave Tesla a chance before jumping to conclusions and then basing repair decisions on internet forum posts instead of just flat-bedding the car to Tesla. Funny getting the car to Tesla is some insurmountable problem which is on;ly a few hours away, but getting it to FL to Rich's shop - well hey that's no big deal we just ship it.

@George Spalding Guessing you have never owned a Tesla. There are many, many things that could cause both the warning message and charging issue that do not require a complete battery replacement, or even repair. He does not "know" what the problem is - he simply knows what the warning message says and what he read on, online forums. To jump to all those conclusions to make a car repair decision makes no sense. Would he also just look at a dash light on an ICE car and assume what is wrong and the repair costs without ever plugging in an OBD Code reader even? Sounds stupid doesn't it? To then ship the car across country on this basis is again just EEfastr nonsense for a cross collab.
